The "Angkor and Science" program
The "Angkor and Science" program is a three-day event that offers a unique opportunity for students to explore the intersection of history and science. It aims to provide a deeper understanding of the cultural and scientific significance of Angkor Wat, one of the world's most iconic heritage sites. The program is designed to be an immersive experience that allows the participants to engage with the subject matter in a meaningful way.
On the first day of the program, the students attend a "Meet and Greet" session where they get to know each other and the instructors. This session is crucial as it sets the tone for the rest of the program by fostering a sense of community and encouraging collaboration among the participants. It's a great opportunity for the students to build a rapport with one another and the instructors. As the program is interdisciplinary, the students need to work together as a team, and the "Meet and Greet" session provides an excellent platform for this purpose.
In addition to the "Meet and Greet" session, the students also receive training on how to film and edit videos. This training is essential as it prepares them for the upcoming video contest the following day.
Day 2: On January 5th, 2023, a group of students from Angkor University embarked on an educational tour of Angkor Wat as part of their "Angkor and Science" program. The tour aimed to provide a deeper understanding of the historical significance of Angkor Wat, along with its scientific and architectural marvels. During the tour, students were divided into teams and tasked with creating a documentary video related to their field of topic. The students picked a random topic, and their documentaries were expected to showcase their research. The documentaries were judged based on their creativity, relevance, and overall presentation. The team that produced the best documentary video was awarded a prize at the end of the contest.
Day 3: The final day of the program includes an exciting cooking competition called "Art of Cooking." Each group gets a chance to showcase their culinary skills by preparing a delicious and nutritious meal within a given time frame, using simple ingredients. The competition tests not only the cooking abilities but also the teamwork, creativity, and time management skills of each group. The judges evaluate each dish based on various factors such as taste, presentation, originality, and adherence to instructions.
The winners of the program are announced at the end of the day and are chosen based on their overall performance in the competition, including their ability to work together as a team, their creativity, and the quality of their dishes.
There are four award categories:
1. Best Video
2. Best Teamwork
3. Funniest Team
4. Best Cooking Skills
Overall, the "Angkor and Science" program provides an immersive and enriching experience for students to explore the cultural and scientific significance of Angkor Wat. It fosters collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking, and equips the participants with valuable research and presentation skills. The program is a testament to the power of interdisciplinary learning and the importance of preserving our cultural heritage.
